Re: Awesome Aquifers B
Competitions in November are not that uncommon. I have heard of many states that have them.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
How are you building your aquifer? It's possible it's just poorly designed compared to others than have been effective in the past...

Don't sweat it. You have a lot of time to prepare, and it may not completely be your falt. Doing poorly is a lot better than winning. Studying what you don't know will lead you to even more things to learn, so you will be much more prepared by the next invite.FueL wrote:Ohh that's not bad at all, November is really early to have an invitational anyway. About how long until activated charcoal stops working because the pores fill up? I have about maybe a volume of 1 inch cubed of granular activated charcoal. I only tested it once with about 1 inch cubed water with food coloring, and then I used water to wash any remaining food coloring out.

I find that reusing the same charcoal again and again produces less desireable results, so I use fresh charcoal each time. I will fill a small cup 1/3 charcoal, 2/3 pollutant and stir for about a minute or so. If it's stopped fizzing, filter out charcoal before it leaves behind dust. You can wash it to remove the pollutant for reuse, but as I said, less effective, which is not what you want at a competition.mnstrviola wrote:About how long until activated charcoal stops working because the pores fill up? Thanks, I just didn't want to buy some more charcoal.silentsage wrote:I find that reusing the same charcoal again and again produces less desireable results, so I use fresh charcoal each time. Ehh, I guess I can use beads instead to show remediation. We don't get any bonus points for filtering out anything fancy like food coloring.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
Is the written test just key terms? If not what else do we need to know?

Of the one competition I've gone to, the written test was just vocabulary. I can't seem to think of anything else they could test you on in the written test, but the event coordinator might do something else.SirBobo wrote:Is the written test just key terms? If not what else do we need to know?
