hahah ok, tuft

hmmm does anybody know where i can find old rules?

so, over the summer i am creating a binder for R&M, and i am using the old list, would that be good enough?
are there any specific topics i should research besides the rocks and minerals themselves?

the rules mention other topics, covering properties of rocks and minerals, formation, types, etc.

Here's the trial event rules on soinc.org. Just scroll down to Rocks and Minerals and the rules are in a PDF format.

And try the Wiki, too.
100% of deaths are somehow caused by science.

Hey, I have been a lurker on these forums for a while but I decided to make an account because I am pretty excited for R&M. I've always been into this kind of thing (well, more fossils), and I plan to study over the summer for this event. I have stuff to put into my binder but I have one question. Can someone tell me the best way to organize said binder? Like by type or by color for ease of ID. Thanks! :)

If you are trying to sort it so that IDing is easy, it is best to do it by color or any visible characteristic. If you want to become more sophisticated, you can also do it by the type of rock (for example: metamorphic, igneous, sedimentary). I would not do it in alphabetical order though since there are better ways to organize it.

Okay thanks. I guess for now I'll sort it by type since many minerals can be different colors. Anyone know if the final rules will be released before late September this time?

Honestly? Alphabetical order is by far the easiest way to organize it. For ID purposes, you should really be able to identify it on sight, or at the very least, narrow it down between two or three specimens. Your binder isn't there to help you ID, it's there to give you info for the questions, and you can find the page you need the fastest alphabetically.

Don't worry I plan on knowing most of them I'm just worrying that I'll screw up and completely not recognize one. I figured if that happens it'd be easy to have a quick go-to guide with pictures. ;)

Yeah, that's happened to me with birds. It's so annoying.
