Most of the dragon books were written before Eragon, actually. All of the good ones, at any rate.

But Eragon was a very weak book. The protagonist was nothing more than a Mary Sue, and everything he did was supposed to be perfect, whether it was or not. Take that girl who Eragon accidentally cursed to protect everyone. She's been forced to grow up and deal with everyone's suffering because of Eragon, yet when she says that she'd like to have her "gift" removed, the author makes it seem like she's wrong for wanting to have a normal life. The books are full of things like that where Eragon can do no wrong, despite what common sense says.

The first book was interesting because it was written by a kid, so you could excuse his generic plot and poorly written characters. But once he got older, it wasn't cute anymore and just became another wearisome, generic fantasy novel.

It's not a terrible book. It has its moments and it can be fairly entertaining at times. But in my opinion, it's nothing special.

Also, your argument against Harry Potter doesn't really make sense. It's true that he can't transcend the death of his parents (but to be fair, you'd be angry too if an evil dictator killed your parents and stuck you with your horrible aunt and uncle for 11 years, hiding the fact that you were a wizard and robbing any possible joy you might have had), but the point of using expelliarmus is that it makes him different than the Death Eaters. He's not gonna go around killing innocent people because they're in his way (i.e. Stan Shunpike). He has no qualms about the Death Eaters though, and he certainly uses other spells on them. The first time he used Expelliarmus was in his first encounter with Voldemort, and he was scared out of his mind, it was the first spell that he thought of. And the last time he uses it is in his last fight with Voldemort, where he knows that he doesn't need to resort to using anything stronger, thanks to the Elder Wand recognizing him as its true owner. And I'd say that being a hero when no one gives you recognition is a lot more heroic that doing it knowing that you're going to receive accolades.

I agree with Gneiss. Harry wins.
I quit Eragon after 10 pages.

The one of the Worst books ever written by far was the Lightning Thief. It made me feel embarrassed to be in the same genus as humans :x I just skipped through a post that hated Great Expectations, I thought it was wonderful. I could not put it down.
My favorite book is A Tale of Two Cities. by Charles Dickens.

Wait... you're only the same genus as us?
But I despised Great Expectations; I read it two years ago, and it simply wasn't my thing. Please don't be condescending to others' tastes; I just didn't like it. I did, however, like The Lightning Thief.

Don't assume everyone else is dumber than you. And please, don't let that comment inspire a stream of your achievements, because I don't really care about that either. Just don't be rude.

EDIT: I think I'll highlight my primary complaint to your post a bit.

In Lang we're starting Tale of Two Cities, and I've been meaning to read it for quite some time. I'm glad I finally get to read it, but not glad I have to do it in class. :(

I enjoyed the Lightning Thief. I don't as much now, I've started to grow out of that particular style, but it was a well-written series, and I managed to get a hold of the last one before it came out- I rather enjoyed that. But dude, seriously, completely uncalled for comment:

Dude, your writing level is probably too low to understand this (wink wink nudge nudge) but those two phrases don't even go together No, you certainly meant offense. No one is NOT going to take offense at that. What are you talking about? It's a disgrace that you put that in there. That was a very offensive comment. These are people that are just as smart as you are, and they're probably smarter because they have the common sense not to write a comment like that.

Now that I have that out, I'd like add to the list and say that the worst book, IMHO, was Moby-pigeon. Perhaps my reading level was "too low to understand it", but I don't think even Herman Melville understood what he was writing. "And then the crew found the white whale, and we'll get to that story, but first, the whaling industry is a remarkable business..."

Reminds me of Les Misérables. I loved that book, but still... "And then Valjean hid in the sewers, and we'll get to that story, but first, a 'brief' history of the Paris sewer system..." :D

Sorry if I offended you...I am bad at being nice... I suppose we are just opposites—that is alright! What did you like about the lightning thief, and what did you dislike about great expectations? And yes, I am only in the same genus. I am a species yet to be discovered, so if you look up the things in the genus of humans, you will not find me there. :(

I still mean no offense, contrary to some peoples believes, but when I do not mean offense, I do not intend to offend anyone...so there is evidence now that I am a liar, and (I still meant NO offense) I took offense from the comment that complained about me trying to say something to not offend anyone, so I suppose that we are both Hypocrites. Oh, well. I am sorry, can anyone ever forgive me?
