Avatars

Post by Galacticdude »

How do I upload an avatar that is a good picture that fits within the parameters. Everything I try is too big and anything that fits looks terrible. Can someone help me?

There are several ways to do this. If you can't find a picture online that will fit parameters, you can lower the picture's physical size, or its quality or resolution. It may seem small, but it does make the site look better. (And please don't plead for larger avatars)

There is a way on Google Images to select small pictures. Look on the right side of the screen when you search for an image and you should be able to limit your results by size.

Limit it by 75X75 or something like that. Anything larger will have to be further compressed.

If you find a picture that's too big, you can shrink it using paint. Go to stretch/skew under the Image menu and make the percentages for horizontal and vertical lower than 100%.

Its easier if you have a program like pdn or photoshop to shirnk images. Just click resize image and make it smaller then 75X75 pixels.

GIMP works wonders. Shrink layer to under 75x75 and crop.

Or if one doesn't have special programs and doesn't know how to limit the searches on google, one can always right click on picture (that has been saved) and pick, open with picture manager (for microsoft)

Paint.NET is free and so is GIMP. I don't use GIMP because it confuses me, but PDN resizes images so that they're not jagged, which is how MSPaint makes them look. But sometimes they end up looking a little blurry.
