Kinda the same here. The top team is always top 10, and often top 5. The next team is right underneath, and besides them, two other high caliber teams miss out. And there is my team, wishing that we lived in a less competitive state.sweetcoop wrote:Well unless by chance almost the rest of the state of Colorado gets bombed there is no chance that my school will ever go to nats. We would have to compete against a team that has won state for about the past 11 years and with the exception of 2 or 3 years have finished top 15 at Nats, No gonna happen.

Hope is futile. I don't hope to go to nats, I work to go there.zyzzyva98 wrote:Heck, I'm just hoping we get to nats. I'm fine with any placement there, I just want to go.

Not as futile as Resistence, mind you.M-E-T-H-O-D MAN wrote:Hope is futile. I don't hope to go to nats, I work to go there.zyzzyva98 wrote:Heck, I'm just hoping we get to nats. I'm fine with any placement there, I just want to go.
I think working hard towards your goals is important, but so is the thought that it might not happen. Whether someone uses that for motivation or not is up to them, but the possibility of defeat is always present, no matter the scenario. The key to overcoming it is, as i said before, Using that feeling to further your motivation.

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
Is that a question you really have to ask? Really? Think about that question for a second.

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
the really weird thing is that my school has never made it to the nationals even though we have a full 6 teams and 15 members and we have unlimited funding (pretty much) and we have never made it to the nationals...for us if coaches need money all they have to do it ask...(oh wait, part of the problem is that one of the schools next to us includes SO in their curriculum)

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
That's not the problem. You can have all the money in the world, but if you aren't passionate and you aren't working, you aren't going to win. You can beat anyone with those two tools. A passion for Science Olympiad, and a work ethic second to none. How do I know this? Because I medaled in all my events last year in states and regionals, over schools that DO offer scioly in the curriculum and DO have unlimited funding (we have none) and DO have extremely large teams (ratio of 40:9 between some schools and us at some points). Work hard, be passionate, and there's nothing you can't do individually. Instill that passion and work ethic in your team and you can be the best.
