A joke? Well... um... haha?

Barely missing nats still gets me riled up. It would be best not to say anything of the sort around me.

Yes yes, I know. By "joke" I meant it was, I don't know, rhetorical? I would rather get last at nats than miss it by a point, but some other people might not.

When you go, no matter how much you tell yourself that, last doesn't cut it.
Well, I guess, but coming from a highly competitive state like NY, just making it to Nationals is like winning nationals for us.

I do not doubt if it came down to the choice of going to nationals and getting last and not going to nationals I would choose to go to nationals. All I'm saying is 58th isn't a satisfying placing, even though we were able to make it to nationals.

Im kinda in the same boat as Starpug here. As someone who regularly had his school finish in the bottom third, I can tell you the experiance of Nationals is completely worth it, and although i knew a bunch of people who took it REALLY seriously, I just tried to enjoy the city life and culture around me.

Yes there is dissappointment after the awards ceremony when you find out your team missed medals by ~20-30 places on average(including yourself), and yes, the coaches always hang their heads a bit, but by the next day, my team was always able to turn away from the dissapointment , and realize how much of an awesome week/weekend we had.

Well this is a no-brainer. Definitely getting last at Nats. There are just too many things to miss if you don't make it to Nats (getting third at states  ).

And just by going to Nationals, you learn so much more info for your events, learn more on competing that you can take back for the next year's competitions, and your able to bond with your teammates more.
