Re: Ornithology B/C
OK...second question. It has been stated several times that the national birds list is three pages long, but the one on the website is only two pages. Help?

Just print off the list that has the clarifications on it. (soinc) It should be 2 pages...that I know of.

Re: Ornithology B/C
I'm not sure if that's what it means, but it might. However, when i went to regionals, the guy supervising it went around and checked all the tabs. When he saw mine, he had to look at them really carefully, and afterwards he said, "sorry, i had to make sure they were handwritten." so...i'm not really sure which is which...but Justine, if all the tabs really do have to be handwritten, that would be really horrible!rfscoach wrote:I believe that in the rules, when they refer to "printed labels" they mean sheets of printed labels with the common and scientific names of all the birds printed on them that can be pealed off and used on answer sheets to cut down on misspelling issues.

Re: Ornithology B/C
It may be true that printed tabs are allowed and the rules are intended to be addressing the issue rfscoach is talking about. But many competitors and many event supervisors interpret the rules to be that only handwritten notes may be added to the field guide. So, using printed labels might officially be legal, but the difference between a potential 1st place and a DQ could be a matter of your ability to persuade. I would suggest submitting a clarifying FAQ to SOinc.org to check if it is legal or not. If it is legal, print the reply email from SOinc saying it is legal and bring it to your competition. If the supervisor disagrees with you, then you will at least have some evidence to back up your case.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Re: Ornithology B/C
Thanks so much everyone! That's a great idea, Paradox21. By the way, (This, as far as I know, is only for MICHIGAN) but the bird list IS three pages. Here is a link: http://scioly.cns.msu.edu/tournament/cl ... rdlist.pdf It has kind of devastated me, as well as the written-tabs thing. I worked really hard on that. But you guys don't need to hear my complaining

Re: Ornithology B/C
Pennsylvania uses the national list, and does not have a modified bird list. For other states, I'd assume that the list would be on the state's SO website.junexia wrote:where do you find state lists? cuz i dont think pa has one, but just to be sure...
