State College Area High School is a team located in State College, Pennsylvania. It currently competes in the Northwest region, but has primarily competed in the Central region in the past. It is fed by Park Forest Middle School and Mount Nittany Middle School, and was formerly fed by State College Junior High School, which won the national championship in 1994 and 1995.
History
State College has had significant success in its history, especially in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Early Seasons and Regional Dominance
They first qualified for the state tournament in 1991, placing 6th. They then began an 11-year regional winning streak, which remains the longest winning streak in the Central Pennsylvania Regional to this day. During the first five years of this winning streak, State College came agonizingly close to qualifying for nationals, placing third each time. But in 1997, State College finally won states for the first time and made its first nationals appearance at North Carolina State University 1997, placing fifth. After this, it proceeded to place second for five straight years, losing each time to Harriton High School, who have only lost once since. In each one of these years, they finished in the top 10 at the national tournament.
Later Seasons
Though State College has not qualified for nationals since 2002, it continues to be a force at the regional and state level. Their most recent regional championship came in 2018, and they have finished in the top three of the region every year except for three (2013, 2015, and 2016). Additionally, they have finished in the top 10 at the state tournament four times since 2019.
Beginning in 2025, State College will return to the Northwest Pennsylvania Regional, where they earned four consecutive regional championships from 2008 to 2011. They won the 2025 regional tournament with an all-time low score of 25 points, earning gold in 21 of the 23 events.
