Nevada is a member state of Science Olympiad in the western region of the United States. The state joined Science Olympiad in 2000, and since then, participation has significantly increased, with 8 teams competing in Division B and 16 teams competing in Division C during the 2025 state competition.

In previous years, regional tournaments have been hosted in Nevada, but they ceased in 2018. All teams now compete in a state-wide competition for the chance to go to nationals. Invitationals have been held in Nevada in the past, like the Las Vegas Invitational and the Davidson Academy Invitational, but none have been held since the 2022-2023 season.

1 Clark High School was originally named the champion, but after a scoring error was discovered, Centennial discovered that it was the rightful champion. A heated controversy ensued, with neither school budging from its stance. Eventually, it was decided that Centennial would be declared the state champion, but Clark would represent Nevada at nationals, since if the erroneous standings had not been removed from the total score, Clark would have been the State Champions. For additional information, see the following articles: Controversy Ruling
