South Woods Middle School is a Junior High School in Syosset, New York. It competes in the Western Long Island Regionals in Division B. South Woods and Harry B. Thompson Middle School feed into Syosset High School.

About the team

South Woods has steadily improved recently, receiving 2nd place at regionals for the past 5 years, and has slowly bridged the gap between them and the first place team. In 2015, they set a team record with 10th at states. In 2017, they finished 2nd place, missing out on 1st by only 2 points at regionals and finished 6th at states, setting another team record. In 2018, South Woods finished 2nd behind C.P. Weber at regionals by only 8 points and ended up 9th at states. In 2019, South Woods managed to at last place 1st in regionals, while placing 12th at states. In 2020, they attended their first Invitational, the Long Island Science Olympiad Invitational (LISO) and placed 2nd out of 42 teams. At their regionals, they placed 1st for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, their states were cancelled because of COVID.

After the 2020-2021 season, South Woods has sadly been steadily deteriorating in both their regionals and states performances due to the retirement of their coach, but for the upcoming 2026 season, the team is determined to show a strong performance at regionals and possibly, states.
