Daniel Wright Junior High School is a Division B school in Lincolnshire, Illinois.
The team from Daniel Wright Junior High School has won the Illinois state competition every year since 2011 (14 consecutive years). They participate in the CLC regionals.
Their first National championship was at the 2016 tournament at UW-Stout, with 182 points. They also won 1st place at the 2017 National Tournament at Wright State University with 165 points. The team does not receive many first place medals, instead the team focuses on placing 8th or higher. (holding the line)
At the most recent national tournament (2024) they placed 4th. Their success is credited to the hardworking parent coaches who devote their time to teach students.
Daniel Wright feeds into Adlai E. Stevenson High School, which won state for the first time in 2013 but never won again.
The team consists of mainly 6th through 8th graders, however they never utilize 9th graders who instead participate in the team at Adlai E. Stevenson High School
Tryouts for the team begin around the middle of October, allowing up to around 32 team members in total. The varsity and junior varsity teams are altered throughout the year depending on students' performances. During the early season, the varsity and JV (green and white, respectively) are not made to separate the teams by experience/skill, but to test different pairings.
You can distinguish and find them at a competition by searching for the students with dark-green jerseys with Warrior logos or a mostly white hoodie that says “Science Olympiad is my Superpower!” (in 2025). However, expect them to wear formal suits/dresses at nationals with pine green ties/dresses.
