Discovery High School is one of the newer programs in the Hickory Region of [[North Carolina]]. The team made its first appearance in the 2012-2013 school year and finished 7th place. In 2013-2014 they secured 6 gold medals and a 3rd place finish in the school's first bid to the state tournament where they finished 22nd; however, not without a handful of medals in their strongest events. The 2014-2015 year saw the team's first tournament championship behind 5 gold medals. The top two teams finished tied, but Discovery won by a tie-breaker (most gold medals). They are known to be particularly strong in the building events, more so than the study-oriented subjects.

They went on to place 34th at the North Carolina State Tournament, but behind 3 gold medals in Bridge Building, Duct Tape Challenge, and the NC only event "Stuck on Science" where they made a 1:4 scale model of the Wright Flyer to follow their 40 foot long suspension bridge debuted for the "Stuck on Science" event sponsored by Shurtape at the 2013-2014 North Carolina state tournament.  They are known to be particularly strong in the building events, more so than the study-oriented subjects.  


Quite possibly their most notable accomplishment is the 40 foot long suspension bridge they debuted for the "Stuck on Science" event sponsored by Shurtape at the 2013-2014 North Carolina state tournament.
