This page has potential, somewhat, but deciding on a definitive ranking of state competitiveness is essentially impossible. There are too many variables that factor into a state's "competitiveness" that choosing one set is very arbitrary. In the end, "competitiveness" is an opinion, not a fact, and that's why we continue to have debates over whether or not a state is "competitive."

I propose that instead of using this page as a measure of a state's competitiveness, we use it for a guide to comparing states- no "rankings", but a comparison of several criteria that allow a viewer to decide unbiasedly. 

Any other suggestions?

Oh, and I strongly suggest standardizing Michigan with the rest of the states. We prefer not to play favorites.

Also note that the category Number Years Participating is incorrect simply because nobody's bothered to add results for most states prior to 1999, which is why so many states appear to have participated for 13 years.  [[User:Luo|Luo]] 22:27, 20 January 2012 (EST)

I agree that this will be too hard to judge, unless maybe a state director goes everywhere in one year (impossible) or someone has competed in all states.

Is there any remaining desire to keep this page open? Right now, it's just kind of sitting there. There's just too many factors that go into something like this to make it a legitimate state comparison. I don't think there is much reason to keep the page open any longer unless there is someone with the desire/initiative to put together a true compendium of statistics without any of the subjective "rankings" that were the original intent of the page and really do not belong in a wiki like this one. --[[User:Luo|Luo]] ([[User talk:Luo|talk]]) 16:50, 9 April 2013 (CDT)
