These aren't in order, but here's ten competitive states: Texas, New York, Ohio, Illinois, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Virginia (or NC, I haven't decided yet).

Isn't NC mostly known for Piedmont?texas wrote:These aren't in order, but here's ten competitive states: Texas, New York, Ohio, Illinois, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Virginia (or NC, I haven't decided yet).

Re: 10 Hardest States?
NorCal's 2nd place team (Kennedy) only barely lost to Churchill this year and would almost certainly be a top-ten school if not top-5 at nationals if we could send two. And our third place team (Wicklund) has the former coach of Solon so watch out for them this year too.

Re: 10 Hardest States?
I'm ranking B and C separately since it matters.
Division B
1. Illinois (DW only needed 90ish to win, plus SAA was 130s)
2. Northern California (Churchill, Kennedy, Wicklund)
3. Ohio (because Ohio)
4. Michigan (Meads Mill, Lakeshore, others that I don't know but are probably good)
5. Southern California (Kraemer, Carmel Valley, Mesa Verde, Jeffrey Trail, etc.)
6. Texas (Beckendorff mostly)
7. New York (PJG and Eagle Hill)
8. Pennsylvania (Springhouse, BC, Shady Side)
9. North Carolina (Piedmont, plus other teams are pretty good with 200+ point scores)
10. Virginia (Longfellow, a few other top teams)
Division C
1. Ohio (Solon, Mentor, Centerville, Mason)
2. Southern California (Troy plus other top teams like Canyon Crest and NoHo)
3. New York (when the top teams have 200+ point scores)
4. Pennsylvania (Harriton, Bayard Rustin, Penncrest, Strath Haven, Conestoga)
5. Northern California (Mira Loma, plus other top teams)
6. Texas (7L, LASA, Clements)
7. Michigan (seems weaker than in B, but still has Northville)
8. Illinois (same as above. Stevenson, New Trier, Hinsdale Central)
9. Georgia (idk I'm running out of options since NC C is weak now. I guess there's Chattahoochee and Brookwood)
10. Indiana (same as above. Hard to tell who the top teams are)

Re: 10 Hardest States?
This is not necessarily an indication of the difficulty of the state, but the size of the state tournament. NY's states always has 50+ teams, which is considerably bigger than most. It's a very competitive state, to be sure, but in terms of comparing difficulty, the performance of the teams at inter-state tournaments like nationals is of greater importance.Unome wrote:3. New York (when the top teams have 200+ point scores)
The rest of the rankings look very solid, though. These sorts of things are very fluid, and can change even yearly, but as a snapshot of current status, it seems to be pretty accurate.

Re: 10 Hardest States?
Yeah I suppose it probably could have gone in 5th or 6th. Hopefully everything else is coherent (tbh thought I don't really believe in GA C being that high, but there's really not many other states left).EastStroudsburg13 wrote:This is not necessarily an indication of the difficulty of the state, but the size of the state tournament. Looks pretty accurate. What about Florida?

Re: 10 Hardest States?
I thought about putting Florida in Div C for 9th or 10th but ultimately decided against it on the basis that Brookwood beat Chattahoochee last year at state, and Indiana teams tend to crowd near the top a lot.bhavjain wrote:Looks pretty accurate. What about Florida?
