Is this allowed?...(important)

So at regionals, I was in ecology and one of the teachers form my school was the judge. Me and my partner were a few minutes late but we didn't know that it would be a problem since we had been late multiple times before and nothing had happend. After I was finished with the event our coach graded the tests told us that we came in first with a 76(:D) And then when the results were revealed, I found out that we weren't first, not even in the top 5. I later checked the scores on the net and found out that we were DQd for being late. Do they have a right to do this?

Being a few minutes late is no reason for being DQ-ed, well at least I don't think it is.

oh man, idr. i think it's that they are supposed to do nothing to you if it's the first 5min and then they can give you a penalty. idk. i have no idea. If i have time i'll look it up.

DQ'ed...no, I don't think so. It takes a lot to get DQ'ed.
Penalty points...I suppose. Although isn't it enough of a penalty to have less time to work on it?
National website has nothing about this though. I'd check the state website and/or with the tournament director.

Normally they could turn you away at the door but they shouldn't DQ you without telling you after you take the test. They could give penatlty points but i don't see why they would let/make you take the test if you were going to be DQed anyway

Good point - there usually is writing that says "IF DISQUALIFIED, NOTIFY COACH IMMEDIATELY," or something to that effect.

They don't have to notify you, and they can disqualify you for almost even what you eat for lunch that day. It's been done to me before, and, as a former event supervisor, I have an idea how tyrannical some of them can be. It's life...
When I was disqualified, my head coach complained, but we got nada. The event supervisors can do pretty much whatever they want with no penalty.

But out of the 14 teams that participated in that event, we came in 14th. That's a whole lot of penalty points. Skink, you're right. Something like this happened to me last year too. In science word, they ''accidentally'' replaced our score(1st) with our school's other team's(14th) causing us to be moved to 2nd place instead of first.
Anyways, I too read the rules and there's no such thing(DQed for being late). I think that the other judges did it for their own reasons. :0

If your coach was the event supervisor, wouldnt he/she know why you were DQed.
Event supervisors should not be that strict at regionals...
