You can build a simple torque meter.
Go to
http://indoorspecialties.com/index1.html and then click the articles tab on the side. You should find an article written by Ray Harlan.
Just hook your motor onto the meter when you wind. It's pretty simple, actually.

If you don't want to make your own, you can buy one online. I use
this torque meter and it's great; I've been rough on it with my motors and it still measures well.
