GET THIS
GET THIS.... I have been in science olympiad for 4 years now and have placed at States twice. I have just recently moved to a new town and am now on the high school science olympiad team. Now I find it safe to assume that I would make the official regional team- WRONG! Even though no other person on my team has NEVER placed at states, I find myself as an alternate, solely based on the fact that I'm a freshman (as opposed to a senior). What do you think about that?
NOTE: One person on the varsity team came to practice once, another did "It's About Time" and got fourth byCOUNTING TIME IN HIS HEAD, and yet another was 80 grams off in Junkyard Challenge (meanwhile I was only 4.7 grams off).

Re: GET THIS
Another example of coaches who ignore freshmen who are better than the upperclassmen. Dude, just deal with it. I have to deal with it every week...

Re: GET THIS
I never knew I was so lucky, I'm a freshman with four events, maybe five. (out of five time slots at regionals)

Re: GET THIS
yeah that does suck, but you'll just have to deal with it this year, as there is really nothing else that you can do

Re: GET THIS
Yeah, but if you're better than the other guys on it, then wouldn't she want you on it? Doesn't she want to be as successful as possible?

Re: GET THIS
Yeah, the coach on our team likes to try to base events on who's taking what classes, which is kinda dumb. For varsity, it's not that bad, but for the other teams its like "you cant do chem lab unless youre in AP chem..." which sucks for the 10th graders that want to do it.
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

Re: GET THIS
My coach does base some on classes, but she also has people rank the events they want to do in the order they want to do them, and if conflicts occur she sometimes bases it off which event you said you wanted to do more, which i don't like, because i really like all of my events
