Should Simple Machines and Compound Machines have separate threads in the Lab Events Forum AND the Question Marathon?

Should Simple Machines and Compound Machines have separate threads in the Lab Events Forum AND the Question Marathon?

Personally, I see no reason to separate them. They both focus on the same topic (classical mechanics); Compound just covers more aspects of the topic. Can someone explain why they think the events should have separate threads? I don't see the reasoning behind it.

I would agree; I've gotten a lot of useful info from the Div C people that's applicable in Div B.

We'll take this into consideration for the next year that the events are in the rotation, but don't count on any changes. The events are too similar to justify having separate threads. Look at anatomy & physiology -- C division does have some extra stuff, but the same basic concepts are the same. Simple/Compound Machines are in the same boat. C has some extra stuff, but the basic concepts are the same. I understand where you're coming from, though.

Still, compound machines are at least noticeably much more complicated than simple machines. Trying to be subtle here.

And who says that's a bad thing? If you practice above your level, you'll be great when you go back down to the actual competition level. Everything will seem so easy.

Exactly. That's how I've learned a lot of stuff here (especially on friction, which I didn't know at all before this year).

I do think at least the question marathons should be separate though, so Div C people don't have to waste time reading Div B questions and Div B people can practice at whichever level they want. Also, someone in Div C who wants to post a question might not be able to if the current question is Div B and has been unanswered for a while.
