Practice
On what days and how long do you practice each day? And how well does your team do overall? I'm trying to get an idea of how much people practice, and a poll wouldn't work well for this. I'm trying to find out how practice time affects overall standings. And i know it doesn't always effect overall standings, i'm just trying to get an idea to prove a point.
My team meets once every so often to figure out who does what, but everyone practices their events on their own. We usually are in the top 10 at states.

Re: Practice
My team (when I competed) had time to practice Mondays and Tuesdays 7-8:30pm, Friday 2:30-6pm, and Saturday 9am-3pm. If we needed time on wednesday and thursday then we could generally work it out (though this was rare). We were always top 3 or so at State and the past two years we went to nationals where we placed 11th overall.

Re: Practice
My team has 60 members and we meat 2 times a week. You're only allowed to go once a week though, unless your a 9th grader, then you can go on both days. Meetings are an hour after school. Meetings are often used as a social time where little or no work gets done. So basically you only go once a week for an hour. Not many people do work out side of meetings. I'm trying to get more people to but it just wont work. A lot of people are in science club because they are forced into it by their parents. Like for example, there's this one 5th grader and he's a huge trouble maker and really not that smart at all. His mother thought science club would be a good thing to get him on the right track so she makes him do it. He hates it and causes lots of trouble at meetings. We got 6th place at states last year but that was with a COMPLETELY different team. That team worked hard and had a lot of really intelligent people on it. I think last year's team was way better than this years but we'll see.

Re: Practice
My team meets Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 3hrs each day, and then Sundays for 4-5hrs. Most people come to 2 out of the 3 of these practice opportunities per week. Individual work goes on at home too, as well as field trips for relevant events.

Re: Practice
Our coaches print a calender with the practice dates on it. I personally usually spend at least four to five hours every week after school, and a couple more on my own.

Re: Practice
WE have a calander for Nov. and Dec. and sometimes January, but since regionals is in early march, after that we just privately schedule tests with the teachers for the people competing and just come anyday of the week and work on whatever. I never like schedules because then there are people that ONLY come when they are on the schedule, which could be only 3 or 4 times a month.

Re: Practice
We don't have "fixed" people competing. We just pick the best people for the event, given the circumstances. If all of a certain person's event's stack, they either don't compete or just to their best event.
