One of our new features for 2014 is a Scioly Roundtable that will be answering your questions in real time every Monday and Friday at 8:00 PM, starting January 31st. We encourage you to submit some topics you'd like to hear them discuss in this thread. Post your suggestions or any questions you might have below!

I don't think chat is working properly. I believe you can't log in as guest, you have to have a kiwi password to log in. If you don't have one, when you click connect, the page will stay inactive other than the button changing color. Should this be happening?

This issue is being worked on. For the moment, the Chat link has reverted to Mibbit, which should not require any passwords.

A BIG thanks to everyone who turned out for the first Scioly Roundtable! We hope to see a similar turnout for our Roundtable on Monday at 8 EST, which will have a different set of helpers answering your questions!

As a little summary, here are some of the main tips that turned up:
  • For Disease Detectives, make sure to check the topics in the wiki under Environmental Quality and research them.
  • For Dynamic Planet, getting good at topo maps takes practice, and lots of it. See Road Scholar Wiki for help. Also, Google searches can be very helpful for topics listed under the rules.
  • For Rocks and Minerals, master the special features of each specimen, construct a good binder, and practice lots of IDs
  • For Metric Mastery, if you have a complex calculation (like surface area), model the object you're measuring to a simple shape, like a rectangular prism or a cylinder, that will be easier to work with. Also, practice is key for improving.
  • For Water Quality, a lot of topics regarding marine ecology will be the same sort of topics that were studied in freshwater ecology
  • Some of the tougher topics in Solar System, such as Thera and Thrace Macula, are easiest to study by searching through Google
  • A lot of formulas that will be used in Technical Problem Solving can be found in an AP Chem or IB Chem textbook
By the way fanjiatian, if you ask here we might be able to help you out. Unfortunately the Best Of pages depend on submissions that we just don't have.

Roundtable starts in an hour! Lots of stuff to talk about, since we're in the heart of competition season. Several state competitions are tomorrow, so come to discuss those or just seek help with some of your events!

I will probably be late, but the other panelists should be free and willing to help!
