I subscribed to a couple threads on the board but while new posts have occurred after the time I subscribed, I have not been notified by email about any of them (while I have been notified by email for past year's threads). I believe this is a problem.

It's been working for me... Are you making sure you're logged in when you look at the threads? It only notifies you once until you look at the thread while logged in. And maybe check your spam folder or something, just in case. And double check that you are subscribed to them.
