Now is the time you want to invest, when the market is at a low. But I suppose you'd rather buy stock when the market is at a high, only to lose money on it (unless you're bear trading...)?

There's a lot of stocks that are safe and a good idea to buy. Or are you specifically asking about stocks from banks? Those are a bit riskier - Wells Fargo is one of the only ones I'd even look at.

No offense to anyone, but how can you not know what Dow Jones is? It's basically on the news everyday.

I would hope everyone has heard of the Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500, and know what they are. But people never cease to amaze me.
