A contest...

Today we announce a new contest for you artsy users. The contest is to create a new Favicon for Scioly.org.

The requirements are simple:
1. 16px x 16px
2. It should look modern
3. Have fun

The goal here is to design and create the best favicon for scioly.org, it should express scioly.org in the best fashion possible. Lets see what you got.

This contest will run until February 3rd, after which we will pick the best Favicon, and the winner will get a prize of some sort.

Cool. I might...might...try something. For anyone else, while you're at it, maybe you could design a new forum theme, too. I assume the new icon would be reflected in the banner at the top of the board. Will it?

EDIT: How and in what file type are submissions made? PM and *.ico? *jpg for ease of judging (since I dunno if icon files get read by the IMG tags)? Is there a limit to number of submissions by a single user?

The favicon is just the small icon in the tabs and address bar of your browser, not actually included in the actual theme and layout of the page. (Right now it's the block gold "S" on a blue background). We are not anticipating any large-scale changes in the theme of the page, either, at least not at this time.

You can send the submissions via PM to the administrator and global moderator usergroups. Most image formats should be fine as long as it's not something crazy- a gif or jpg would be perfectly fine. Since robotman is the one who's organizing this though, check with him.

Okay. I asked because currently--far as I can tell--they 'match' each other. I assume the current icon came from the scioly.org logo, after all.

That's right if I understand my history, and while I think there would be a preference for the favicon to continue to match the theme, all submissions will receive equal consideration regardless of color scheme.

Hmm alright since I like designing graphics I will try this. Personally, I think even the whole logo needs a redo (it's basically a bubble with words on it, and there's nothing subjective or special about it), but I will try the favicon first.

Upload the picture to an image hosting site such as imgur or tinypic and then send the administrators group a PM with the image.
