Facebook and Your Team
So, this is the first year my team's had a Facebook group, and I was kind of wondering about you/your schools take on it.
First, does your team have a Facebook group?
If yes, what do you mainly use it for?
Does most of your team have access to the page (aka have a Facebook account)?
Does your coach know about the page?
If so, do they have access to it? What do they think about it?
Do you find it useful?
If not, has it ever been discussed? Why hasn't it been put into place?
My answers:
Yes, we have a group.
It's mostly used for members to communicate with each other. So far, we've mostly used it to confirm scheduling and make a few minor adjustments
All but one of our Varsity members have access, and about half our JV team, which will probably increase as the year goes on
No, our coach doesn't know. Yet. She will when we tell her how we've changed around scheduling
Yes, I find it pretty useful. In our meetings, sometimes we have more fun talking. We're a lot more efficient, and I think we're really stepping it up and starting to work together more as a team this year.
So, how about you?

1. Yes, our team has a Facebook group.
2. We use it for communication and announcements mostly. This way we all know what each other is doing, even if we miss a few meetings because of other activities.
3. Yes, most of our team does. Of course, it helps to be a C team. The ones that do not are fairly consistent in coming to meetings, so there's no problem there.
4. I think he does, since I've mentioned it in meetings.
5. He's not on it, since none of us are friends. I like to think he approves of it, since it allows us to communicate with each other easily (this had been a problem before the group was created)
6. Yes, I do. It allows me to make sure everyone knows what they're doing, post links, give tips, etc.

Re: Facebook and Your Team
First, does your team have a Facebook group? Nah, Div. B teams tend not to, and I don't think I need to say why that is. In IL, I know Lisle keeps a FB page (ISO's FB page has it on their favorite pages). I don't know how useful it is for them, though. We might get some other form of social media, though...also in IL (all I really know about
), Science and Arts Academy has a very nicely polished intranet that they keep for their school only until the day of the competition for, like, Compute This. That's not as good for communication as FB is, though.
If yes, what do you mainly use it for? If no, post the nerdy guy.
Does most of your team have access to the page (aka have a Facebook account)? And this is where Div. B and FB crumbles...a lot of us actually do, but it's not enough for it to be fair to those that don't.

Re: Facebook and Your Team
1. Yes, this will be the third year
2. Everything, we schedule, distribute forms and other documents such as rules, and make announcements
3. All except one, who we all rip on for it
4. I'm pretty sure
5. Not this year, in past years previous coaches have been
6. I'd say yes, considering most of the kids will check Facebook enough to get all the announcements, the only other way would be through texting(which we do use for more urgent messages) but otherwise we would have to rely on everyone to periodically check a website
The other things I'd like to add is that we usually will end up making three different groups per year; a main one for everybody, an officer one for officers to collaborate, and a state team one for the state team
