I can speak Mandarin, Teo Chew, Cantonese, English, and a bit of Spanish. Then I know some phrases in German, Russian, and French, but I don't think that counts.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom always to tell the difference."
I've taken German for five years...but haven't learned anything/have forgotten everything over the last three. But I can ask for directions and have a conversation about what people do in their free time.
It is sad that I know but one language, and that language is not English. It is true—I did know English at one point—but alas, that language I embraced, mangled and destroyed. The language I now speak is not English. I know no other languages. If you are able to understand my writing, it is only a coincidence. It is only the result of an odd intersection in the syntax and vocabulary between English and the language I speak.
