Scioly.org Event Challenges: Summer 2024

Post by RasmitDevkota »

SEC is back this summer!

What is SEC? SEC (Scioly.org Event Challenges) is an unofficial competition held virtually on Scilympiad, run entirely by community members! SEC is individual and anyone can compete or even run an event, meaning you don't have to be on a team or even in school to participate. This time around, it won't be monthly, thus the rebranding: SEC.

How do I participate? If you are interested in competing or running an event, fill out the interest form below as soon as possible so that we can organize event supervisors and finalize a list of events! You should fill out the form by April 14th if you are interested in running an event. You may fill out the form later, but there may not be a guarantee that the event is approved and run. This isn't an immediate commitment, so fill out the form even if you are not sure about participating. If you are not interested for any reason, we would love to hear your feedback on the form anyways and have a section for open feedback.

Login IDs are here! Please see the linked spreadsheet with your login IDs (assigned to each Scioly.org username) and instructions if needed: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

If you haven't already, you can still fill out the interest form to compete! If you respond to the form after this spreadsheet was initially released, your login ID will be created as soon as possible, typically within a few days. Check the spreadsheet regularly for each new batch of login IDs.

The competition window will open Monday, June 3rd at 3:00 AM EST/12:00 AM PST and close Wednesday, July 31st at 3:00 AM EST/12:00 AM PST. Please be sure to check the event modifications individually prior to starting each test, especially regarding digital resources - not all events allow these.

If you encounter any issues, please reach out! Good luck!

I apologize if this it the wrong platform to ask this question but for binder events (such as fossils), it is unclear whether or not we are allowed to use a physical binder, or if a partner is allowed (as the screen says "you and your partner"). I'm presuming only one person is allowed to take the test and the regular materials (binder, calculator, field guide) are permitted, but I just want to make sure.

All SEC events this year are individual, so you won't have a partner. For resources policies, please check each event's modifications individually as we do not have a universal policy and the exact specifications differ greatly from event to event.

For note sheet and binder events, do we have to print resources?

Most events will have their specified rule modifications for resources. Afair, most events require you to submit a file or link to whatever documents you used as resources before competing, but it's specific to event. Ecology and Forestry is digital, Anatomy is digital, not sure about the other events but it's expected they check digitized notes because everything's on Scilympiad.
