Division C events

Hi all!

I was taking a look at some of the Div. C events for this year, and I was wondering: are the tests/events harder than the Div. B events? Because I was looking at Remote Sensing, and it seems crazy that you're allowed 5 sheets of notes Also, on the Technical Problem Solving page, calculus...???? O.o

So it seems that way; is it?

Yeah, generally it seems to be harder. The competition for Sumo Bot is especially rough nowadays.

Yes, many of the C events are much more difficult. However, every event and test is different - in my opinion, the hardest test I've ever taken was a regional Heredity in 7th grade - not even the remote test of last year at states can hold a candle to that in difficulty.
There are some events, though, that are very hard to grasp - good luck if you choose one of them!

Obviously, Division C events are going to be more difficult than B events. You can't have high schoolers competing over middle school material. This is especially relevant in events such as Optics or Anatomy or Exp Design, where C has extra areas to study over. C is a whole new experience, and you may not be successful quickly, but if you work hard enough there's no reason you can't do just as well as B. Remember, the tests are getting harder, but you're getting smarter.

I agree with the general consensus that division C is harder. For example, there's a reason Astronomy (though there are similar division B events) and Protein Modeling are only in div C. They're quite difficult...

No argument. I only meant that C people should not be tested over B material, it would be too easy. There's no reason B people can't be tested over C material at an invitational, it would help them get better.

To win, or even medal in a competitive state or at nats (I assume; I've never been), you have to be studying at an advanced high school or college level, even in division b. I think that's true for pretty much every study event and most lab events.

True, my friend who did ecology (B) 3 years in a row got 3 gold at State in a row, and he said he studied from college textbooks
Scary thing is, his partner didn't show up so he pretty much took the test with a replacement (who didn't really know anything) and got 1st in his first year of SO. O.o
