Flight Seminars and Events

I am starting a new thread just for announcing SO Flight Seminars and flying events.

The NFFS Free Flight Calendar is at https://www.freeflight.org/free-flight-calendar/month/, and you can select "Event Type" as Science Olympiad to see events that encourage SO participation.

The first Flight Seminar to announce for this year will be held in conjunction with the Solon Invitational. The Flight Seminar will be Friday Night, Feb 2, at Solon Middle School, 5:30-8:30pm. While targeting participants in the Solon Invite, it is open to all SO teams to participate. We have commitments form some very good flyers in indoor freeflight, including US Team Members, so there will be opportunity to learn from the best. I plan to be there, as does Dave L. from Indoor Free Flight Supply. Whether you are struggling to get flying at all, or looking for that next 30 seconds in your flight, this will be a valuable seminar.

We will also provide flight critiques to those teams wanting it after your official flights at the invite.

MIT Invite This Weekend:

Dave Lindley (President of NFFS, and owner of Indoor Free Flight Supply) and Andrew Welter (recent SO Wright Stuff star, F1D expert, member of 2020 US Junior team) will ES the event.

After the event and before awards, there will be about a 3-hour window in which you can fly in the contest gym and receive expert guidance from these two. What an opportunity!

A reminder for those planning to attend the Solon Flight Clinic in a week: PLEASE REGISTER. Your registration is free, but it helps up plan for materials and people to help out.

On the Discord server some were asking for a video or resource to introduce flying opportunities beyond SO. Specifically, Academy of Modell Aeronautics (AMA) events for indoor free flight.

NFFS will be sponsoring a Flight Clinic at Nationals on Friday, 10am to 4pm.

This clinic will be held in the Competition Gyms!

NFFS coaches will be on hand to help improve your flying. There will be a few brief presentations at the beginning and then plenty of flying time available.

Kent State Indoor Flying Event

May 25-27, Kent State University Field House

This coincides with SO Nationals. If you are not competing at Nationals, I will be at Kent all three days. If you are going to Nationals, round out your trip with two days at Kent State in a premier facility.

AMA classes, such as Limited Penny Plane, A6, ministick, etc. are strongly encouraged. Get Building! I know a number of SO students are planning to attend with new Limited Penny Planes.
