Opinions on targets

What surfaces are teams and tournaments using for placing targets? Is it worth getting panels to place on the floor, and do the panels make cleanup any easier?

I found it interesting how much the rules elaborate on the targets - the near target must be a square, far target "recommended" to be square, and they mention panels along with tape on the floor. My students don't set up a competition-like target for testing. At a competition, I'd think it would be easiest just to tape the targets to the floor, so they remain fixed all day instead of inadvertently moved. Maybe if there's some cool paper that left clear marks when impacted, someone could make target mats that record shots better than scattered particles.

Thanks for posting this idea. I’ve seen so many inaccuracies this year in recording impact points. It just gets fatiguing for the judges and is impossible to get correct. Slo Mo video is a great option for practice or if teams don’t set up sand or kitty litter for invitationals. (Which they really should.)

How do you keep the time down when reviewing the video and getting consensus?

Thanks!
