Reposting from the Discord. I have been pretty out of the loop for the last couple years, but it's great to see the registration numbers of teams within Philadelphia. Before the urban initiative it felt like we were lucky if there were 1-2 teams from inside the city, but now based on Scilympiad I count 8 schools in B and 15 schools in C. Just really nice that the growth has sustained.

Looks like the regionals have been slightly realigned: https://pascioly.org/regionals.

Chester County goes to CEPA and a bunch of counties go to NWPA. The changes should balance out the number of teams a bit, though I wonder if the eventual goal is to have 7 regionals again, as the new CEPA geometry is a bit awkward. Re-splitting SEPA is an option, but as a bit of a PASO historian it would be kind of cool to see Juniata host a regional and give teams in the middle of the state a closer option.

In my research, I managed to determine the top 3 of every NEPA regional tournament since it began in 1991, so I then compiled the number of top 3s every team had in two tables: https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/North ... _By_School. Some interesting trends:
  • There is a massive gap in Division B between the top 2, Stroudsburg and Wyoming Area, and the rest of the field. However, neither of these two teams competes anymore. Unless either of them returns, the region is wide open for Harlan Rowe, North Pocono, and Abington Heights to make up ground.
  • Athens has NEVER finished 2nd or 3rd in the region. They've never finished 4th or 5th either. They either win, or finish 6th or worst. That's wild.
  • While 15 B programs have finished top 3 in the region more than once, only 9 C programs can say the same. Not sure if this is just noise, or speaks to the uncertainty that comes with Division B being more coach-dependent than Division C. But, it does mean that my alma mater's 2nd-place finish in 2012 puts us 10th on the list, which I am deeply entertained by.
Anyway, just wanted to share. NEPA historically has done a great job getting its region publicized in area newspapers, which has helped a massive amount when collecting this info. I have not had nearly the same luck with any other region, or with the state tournament itself. So, kudos to NEPA.
