Post by Janeio5 »

I’m in need for a flight kit ASAP to get my team to start practicing but I’m not able to find one with the parameters for this year, is there any wright stuff kit that’s similar ?

Thanks in advance!

J,

Take a look at the other thread in this forum. Several kits are mentioned and discussed.

I am currently aware of 4 suppliers offering kits to this years rules (note, this is their claim, CHECK THE PLANE YOURSELF once built). In NO particular order:
J & H Aerospace
Freedom Flight Models
Guru Tech Engineering
Retro RC

There may be others, but I know these are offering kits.

If you haven't built an indoor free flight plane before, any of these are a perfectly good starting place and if you do your job should result in planes capable of flying 2+ minutes. Don't sweat which is "Best" until you can build ANY one of them and get it to two minutes. Once you can do that, looking for best becomes more relevant.

Lasercutplanes.com also makes a kit.

I'm in the process of trying out all of the kits available this year, as I always do each year, save for the "official" SO kits which I avoid touching for fear of repercussions. Let me just say that with the exception of one of the kits, they all fly great. Unfortunately I tried to help a student trim out the "economy" manufacturer's plane after another expert tried and gave up. It was built well by a pretty sharp young man. We never did get it to fly properly and I honestly do not know why we couldn't get it to fly or why such an ill-tempered airplane was released. I have other issues with the kit but I'll admit that it does go together well. It just doesn't seem to like doing the flying part.

So with that warning, go have fun. Retro, Lasercut, and J&H (full disclosure, my company) all make entry level kits directed at helping inexperienced builders gain early success. My impression is that all of those kits are pretty competitive too. Advanced kits are offered by J&H and Freedomflight (I embrace not being allowed to sleep by offering two kits, you're welcome. Lol ).
