Falling Mass

Clarification about rule 3c about the falling mass. Is it required for the mass to drop vertically downward to launch the vehicle or are we allowed to use a pendulum like device to push/launch it?

Detector Building does have a mass in rule 3c, but it's not falling!

(For scrambler, there's no rule that says that the mass must fall vertically, but you can't impart energy to it with your launch. But your 1.5kg pendulum hitting the back of the car should be OK.)
