We are very excited to announce UPenn’s Seventh Annual Science Olympiad Invitational (SOUP), to be held on February 18, 2023.

With prevalent COVID-19 vaccination across the country, we hope to bring everyone back to UPenn’s campus for a fully in-person tournament. Information on team registration, tournament length, and format will be revealed in the coming weeks and will be flexible to change in accordance with recommendations by the National Science Olympiad and local guidelines.

Both new and returning members can apply for any of these positions. All applications are due this Sunday, September 11th by 11:59 pm.

Hello all SOUP Participants,

We are pleased to announce our 7th annual Penn Science Olympiad Invitational will be held on Saturday, February 18th, 2023!

Logistics

• The tournament will be on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 from 8 AM ET to 3 PM ET.

• We are excited to bring students back to Penn’s campus for a fully in-person invitational and are working to develop a safe and intellectually stimulating tournament.

• After the tournament ends, there will be assorted activities for the students, parents, and coaches from 3 PM ET to 5 PM ET, after which awards will be held at the Irvine Auditorium. More details on these events and the awards ceremony will be sent to registered teams.

Tournament Format

• All of our events will be run using National-level rules, with minor modifications to the event structure. A detailed list of changes will be announced to registered teams.

• Events will be scheduled following the 2022-2023 National schedule. A detailed schedule with team numbers will be sent to registered teams.

• Build events will count toward teams’ final scores as the tournament will be in-person.

• All impounds are due the day of the tournament by 8 AM EST.

• We expect students to give their best effort while displaying honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship. All teams are expected to follow our tournament rules and abide by the Science Olympiad Code of Ethics.

Registration

• We will host 60 teams this year. Schools can register at most 2 teams. Each team may have a maximum of 15 members, per the National rules. Please ensure that each team has at least 10 members, as we wish to accommodate as many participants as possible.

• The registration fee for this year’s tournament is $75 per team. This fee will be waived for Philadelphia district schools.

• To register, please use this Google Form Linkhttps://forms.gle/cHL2zuNjfsqVxdkZ8 on Friday, September 23rd, 2022 at 3:00 PM ET. The link will also be available at our website https://pennscienceolympiad.org/.

• In a new official rule, we will reserve one team spot for all schools that placed in the top 20 at last year’s tournament. These reservations will be held until Friday, September 30th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ET, and after this date, these spots will be forfeit.

• Registered teams will be notified and any additional teams that register will be placed on a waitlist.

• After being informed of their registration, the teams’ registration fee will be due by November 1st, 2022 at 5 PM ET.

• To receive a refund of the registration fee (and forfeit their spot in the tournament), teams can submit a full refund request by January 1st, 2023.
