2008 US Presidential Election Thread
To jump start the General Chat forum, I create a thread for discussion of the 2008 US Presidential Election.
Who do you support? Why? Who do you not support? Why? What are the pressing issues the next president should focus on. More importantly, how should these issues be tackled?
Discuss.

Re: 2008 US Presidential Election Thread
This thread was bound to come up eventually. I give it a week before the infamous 'religion thread' resurfaces.

Discussing religion is against the rules, discussing politics is not. However, I believe that the rules can be expanded as our fearless leaders find necessary.
With that said, I really can't support any of the candidates this year. None of them take a principled stand on the issues that I find important.

I don't really like any of the candidates much either, Skystrider. I actually was starting to kind of like Clinton just because of the whole "a woman as president" type thing, which is weird because that's very unlike me and I definitely would not consider myself to be a Democrat at all. But she's done now and I won't be able to vote anyway, so that's as far as my caring about it goes.
We're just good educated guessers.

Partisan gridlock is getting seriously out of hand. Nothing is getting passed and nothing is getting done because partisan politics are getting in the way of healthy, productive debate. I'm sick of all this squabbling over semantics and specifics when what we really need as a nation is a holistic, bipartisan solution. It's not going to happen anytime in the near future, but we need to start thinking about compromise.

Re: 2008 US Presidential Election Thread
The candidates spend their time talking about the problems, and less time talking about how to solve the problems.
They tend to propose things that sound good, but pay no attention to the possible costs of the propositions. And people believe every word they say.
They tend say anything that gains them support. They have no sense of consistency, or solid set of principles they follow.
It always boils down to experience, and age. Obama has no experience, or McCain is too old.
The arguments are always superficial. No real solid issues are ever raised. The people are getting shut out from real issues.
Personally, I supported Ron Paul for president.
You might know of Ron Paul supporters as kooks or conspiracy theorists.
I am just a person that is tired of the same old politics.
Now is not the only time politics is superficial. Check out the 1992 Presidential debates. They sound just like the ones today.
