BirdSO Invitationals 2022
Posted: Thu Aug 26, 2021 3:59 pm
Dear Science Olympiad community,
The BirdSO team is excited to announce our 2nd ever season of invitationals! We will be hosting two separate tournaments, which will take place on December 11th-18th (miniSO) and February 12th-19th (Satellite)! BirdSO will be hosted under the Southern California Science Olympiad organization; all profits will be used to fund the 2022 Science Olympiad National Tournament at CalTech.
Registration will open on September 17th at 3 PM PT for both tournaments. Teams may attend both tournaments. The team cap will be 150 teams in both divisions in both the miniSO and Satellite competitions. Teams will be taken on a first come, first serve basis. Schools may send a maximum of 4 teams per division. The cost is $65/team; schools may also apply for a fee waiver if they are unable to pay due to financial burdens.
We will run 23 events, including replacements, in both the miniSO and Satellite competitions, in addition to trial events. We would also like to announce the Computer Science Initiative, coming to the 2022 Satellite Invitational! Our goal is to promote computer science to the wider Science Olympiad community—six computer science events, ranging from machine learning to cybersecurity, will be run alongside the main and trial events but will not count towards the final score.
Custom medals will be given to the top 15 teams in each event and trophies will be given to the top 15 schools. Certificates will be given to the top 30 teams in each event, and participation certificates will be given to all students.
As with last year, we are looking for experienced event supervisors to volunteer at our tournaments. Applications will open on September 17th at 3 PM PT.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at director@birdso.org or the 2022 BirdSO Invitational forums thread. Future updates will be posted at bit.ly/birdso-updates-2022.
Sincerely,
BirdSO Tournament Directors
