Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Does anyone know if bracing wires (boron filaments & tungsten wire) will be permitted this year?
I know that string is allowed, but I was wondering just what that included.

I don't have the rules, but I doubt it. Besides, with a 4 gram min weight, you wont need them.

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
The rules say "The helicopter may be braced with string of any base material", which I believe just means that you can use any kind of string. Wire is not specifically mentioned in the rules, except to say that you can use malleable wire and music wire (along with several other things) to attach the parts of your 'copter together.

Still a gray area, as those previously mentioned aren't malleable, or string. i'd only be using the wire as a last resort, but I think I should submit a rules clarification just in case.

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Would plastic cups be considered rigid plastic?
And i was considering building my rotors by making a triangle with a few sticks of light balsa, and then tightly spreading mylar so that it covered one side, and gluing it down. Very primitive, yes, but do u guys think it would work?

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Thanks! What time did you get? We've gotten upwards of 40 seconds but we did just put the heli together in a few hours.illusionist wrote:That's what I did for my first heli, and I got an okayy time for a first flight...

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
In my house's foyer (around 17ft.tall by 8 by 8) I got 34 seconds. Not too great, but I think it was okay, for doing so with over the summer without much information.

Do you think prop hangers are legal under this years rules?
