Discussion for Massachusetts 2011.

Anyone doing WSLL? I think I might enter Wakefield so we can get some experience.

That looks interesting. I don't think we can do it really cause we don't have normal transportation to places (we're not actually an official school team yet). I think we'll just focus on competition, oh well.

Anyone have any idea what they want to do for their events yet? I'm thinking: Anatomy, Chem Lab, Mission Possible, Optics, Remote Sensing, Sumo Bots, Wind Power

I'm really excited about Sumo if we can afford it and I want to redeem myself in chem lab and anatomy.

Is anyone else annoyed that helicopters and mousetrap vehicle aren't going to be events this year, but circuit lab is? My team was so excited for those two events D:

Hey! We're probably doing some WSSL this year but most likely not competitively.

Well yesterday was such an amazing day. Our team came in 8th in only it's second year and I couldn't be prouder as it's founder. Congrats to Acton-Boxboro and Newton North for such great showings. Congrats to all who were there, it was a fun time :D

Thanks for the kind words Tnammeo. 8th is indeed a great achievement for such a new team. As a Newton North student, I couldn't be happier to have lost to a team as good as Acton-Boxborough. Although I very much enjoyed going to Nationals 3 and 2 years ago, they were a better team for their consistent medaling. Over these four years, I've come to realize that at the top it's not about how many medals you get, it's about how many medals you don't get. I got first in all five of my events: Wind Power, Disease Detectives, Optics, Sounds of Music, and Sumobots (although I didn't get to actually compete the bot as I had an event at the same time.) (I was that freshman-looking kid who went up a quite a few times.) This wasn't enough, however, to make up for a few events that a few people didn't do well in. I don't blame these people; the sheer consistency of AB's performance was astounding to me. I look forward to seeing AB's rank at nats.

Saturday was a lot of fun. I can't wait for next years competition!

I agree with everything said about the AB team. I'm from Lexington and though we got fourth overall, we definitely had our good events and our not so good events. Looking at the scores, the lowest AB got in any single event was 9th place and their average ranking in any given event was around 3. That is absolutely incredible. I can't wait to see them improve on last year's 28th place finish at Nationals and to compete with them, and everyone else, at next years state competition as a senior!

I'd also like to congratulate Newton North and Newton South, on their second and third place wins, respectively. Great job, guys!
