(gh) Not sure if how different the B and C events are, so I'm putting this under one thread.

I assume this is Car of Tomorrow, right?
If so, does anyone think the rules will change significantly?

A question for any who have done this event before: per rules 5.iv and 5.vii, competitors must place a pencil in front of the vehicle to prevent it from moving, and start the vehicle by removing the pencil. Is there any danger that the vehicle will actually be able to push the pencil, or are they just not that powerful? Also, the rules don't seem to specify who supplies the pencil. Do you have to bring your own (as in mousetrap) or did the supervisor use the same one all day? Thanks in advance.

Haven't done this event before, but we used to have an invention club at my middle school that did maglev one year. These vehicles are really weak, at least when we made them. They're essentially hovercrafts that are propelled forward with fans, so they're really easy to keep still. Not sure what they'll do about the pencil--bring one just in case?

Are most people using model aircraft propellers? Does anyone have a good source for propellers with more than two blades?

i would use plastic propellers. You should bring your own pencils, but the judge will usually have one just in case.

Just realized that there is also a written test.
1) What do you think they will ask, and can we bring a calculator?
2) How will the test be administered at NYS competition C Division?

a test for MagLev? i don't think so.
