Mason Scioly is excited to announce our first ever Mini SO invitational tournament on March 20th, 2021! Registration is now open. The first 50 division C teams to register and pay will be given spots at competition, and others will be placed onto a waitlist.

We will run the events listed here. The scored events should be very familiar to teams, and we hope that our creative trials will be fun to compete in as well.

Why attend the Mason Invite?
  • High-quality tests. All events have a Mason competitor, alumnus, or coach as a contributing test writer, and many more as part of the review process. We hear your gripes with low test quality because we’ve seen it numerous times ourselves, and look to give the attending teams a challenging yet pleasing experience. In addition, we plan to release tests, keys, and histograms after the tournament.
  • Good timing. Our invite’s date of March 20th serves as a great opportunity to practice before the state tournaments of many areas, especially our native Ohio. With great tests and competition, attending teams will be able to practice for the all-important postseason.
  • Fun! By incorporating refreshing trial events, post-tournament games, and a mole-design contest (stay tuned) we hope to cut through some of the monotony of this digital season and offer a personal touch. Beyond medals, 1st place winners will also receive fun prizes based on the event! Specific prizes will be released soon.
This tournament will have a fee of $50 per team (plus a small processing fee). We do not require any payment at the time of registration, but ask that teams submit their payment by Saturday, March 13th.

More information can be found on our Scilympiad page (our website is currently under construction). Please send us an email at masonscio@gmail.com if anything should need to be cleared up!

Note: information regarding the awards ceremony, fun prizes, merch, post-competition games, and payment methods will be released shortly.

Will it be an asynchronous or synchronous tournament?

We will model the 6 block national event schedule in a synchronous format (Sounds of Music and Detector Building will be available for teams to self-schedule). Also, we'll make the trial events available to take any time during the 6 blocks.

All trial event rules (with the exception of Solar Power, because we didn't think that linking the national rules manual was a good idea) have been linked on our event info page!

Please disregard this past post. After discussing with some teams, we have decided to transition to an asynchronous format. Competitors will be able to test anytime from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on Saturday, March 20th (EST), so long as all teams from the same school synchronize their event blocks. For example, if school A sends teams C01, C02, and C03, and team C01 decides to take the Astronomy test at 4 PM EST, we ask that C02 and C03 also take the Astronomy test at 4 PM EST.
