Events That Hurt!

Post by Jocool »

Events can not only teach a science lesson, but also a lesson in life! Has your event "taught" you a "lesson"?

Once, my trajectory partner had his foot on the rope we use to fire, his head over the machine. He slipped... yeah, didn't turn out well. Nothing too major, though.

Any event that involves either soldering or nichrome wire, MPC involves both. MPC has a tendency not to be too kind to me.

I also was using some flame to cut my trigger line for Trajectory (sticks the ends together so it doesn't fray) and It was a rather thick piece of cord and I tried to pull it apart and some of the resin ended up on my hand. This equals a nice second degree burn on the joint of one of my fingers

We had a piece of metal sticking out to the side of our ballista, and I moved my arm to point to something and it scraped up against the metal. Let's just say I still have a 4 inch scar on my right arm (this happened months ago..) :|

I'm sensing trajectory as a favorite here....
I see why, though, I've nearly gotten hit with our team's trajectory device a few times before. Beware of flying tennis balls!

Egg-o-naut can be hazardous, too. One time at a meet I was at, the launcher malfunctioned and our rocket shot nearly sideways. It flew about 5 feet over our heads. It was kind of scary! (But it was all good in the end, they let us re-launch because the malfunction was not our fault at all.)

I remember seeing an egg o naut at states that embeded itself a couple inches into the ground, it makes you understand the point of the no pointy nose cone rule a whole lot better (har har)

Judges aren't safe either. (This was posted on trajectory as well) At one competition, one team's machine far overshot the target and hit one of the judges standing behind the target in the forehead.

I'm glad it wasn't us.
