Coaches' "Division"

Recently, I've noticed that there are several coaches on the forums. But when it asks for a specific division in the account setup, there isn't a division specific for the coaches. Sure, there's the grad division, but coaches and graduates provide different insight on the events. It's one thing to be a graduate of an event or an event moderator, and another to be someone who coaches an event. I think coaches should have their own "division", so people can know more specifically where the information comes from. Thanks.

I agree. That's a really good idea.

That was the drawback I was thinking of, you can't know for sure if they're really a coach. Of course, you don't know if I'm really in division B, either (I am, but you really can't trust the division category anyway). You could have an application process, but that would take too long and get too complicated. It was only a suggestion, but I still think we need to give our coaches credit!

If they want to they can put it in their sig or something. You being in B division doesn't afford you any advantage of credibility or anything, but "Coach" is like asking people to worship and trust you.

I agree that a 'Coach' option might be improperly used by some people. But, if someone's a coach and really wants to let people know that they are, they could just say so in their signature. They could also put it under the 'Location' field if they wanted to, that way it would be in the box with all of the other information, like state and division. Instead of just saying "Wherever High School" or "Somewheretown", they could put "Coach at Wherever High School" or "Coach from Somewheretown". (Yeah, I know that whether you're a coach or not doesn't really have much to do with your location, but people put random stuff in the location field all the time....)

Well, you guys have been around longer than I have. It was just something that I've been thinking about for awhile.

When I originally suggested the idea, I had kind of thought that coaches could just choose what division they coached - the purpose of the field is to avoid confusion when talking about different sets of rules for the same event, etc. However, I could see people misinterpreting that, so it probably isn't the best idea.
There is the option to keep the division field blank.

There could be a "Coaches B" and a "Coaches C" division option...
