Has your event been messed up badly?

Post by Jocool »

Has your tech event been seriously messed up? For me, my battery buggies calibrations went wack the week of the competition. We fixed it in time, but it could have turned out worse. we all need to laugh at a similar problem to ours sometimes. Any other stories?

My planes wing posts broke at States.

I broke my PSL windmill putting it on the motor at States.

Several of my friend's towers have been broken by people.

Well, one day before regionals this year we find out in 7th hour that our trajectory machine needs recalibration. After staying after and taking out some of the numbers I come in early the next day (well, earlier than everyone else) and my partner, who is the aimer, doesn't show up until 15 minutes til we have to leave. I spend 45 minutes re-setting up the graphs, printing them out, and it pays off with a -30 at regionals*. Whew.

*Actually, it was 70 because the judges had an unknown rule about when the goggles were supposed to be put on so we got a penalty and second place.

My scramblers just don't like to work:
Regionals: launcher broke (luckily we managed to fix it)
State1: Violation that we never knew about because It wasn't found at regionals (this is probably partially our fault but still......)
Before State2: One of our alternates like an idiot when rolling the scrambler back to our test start line rolls it back as hard as he could and breaks what was a almost perfectly working car.
State2: Somehow the egg broke when we were putting tape on it......literally it was sitting on the launcher, I put a piece of tape on it and CRACK it breaks.

Oh, that reminds me of my team's Scrambler fail at Regionals last year. It wasn't one of my events, but still...it was bad. We couldn't figure how to make it work before the competition, so we used a ramp (which was illegal anyways, by this point we were just going for participation points). So my teammates went there and they got DQ'd, but apparently they let us run it anyways. According to them, it got to the bottom of the ramp and the egg collided with the floor and cracked.
