A pretty simple way to discover some lesser known music! Title is pretty self-explanatory eh?

To make it easier to search for certain categories of music in this thread (as I anticipate this may become an amalgam of romantic and rock 'n' roll, and everything in between), there's only one real "rule": List the time period/genre (i.e. Romantic, Baroque, K-Pop, R&B, etc) somewhere at or near the top of each post.

If you'd like, include some background about the person/group, their music, and/or how you came across their music!

I'll start:

Vasily Kalinnikov
Time Period: Romantic Era

A Russian romantic composer who lived during the late 1800s and briefly into 1901, most known for his first Symphony (out of two). He was praised by many prolific Russian composers during his time, including by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, but died young due to tuberculosis. Many speculate that his name would've resided alongside the other great Russian Romantic composers should he have lived longer.

I discovered Kalinnikov when i had the chance to play the 4th movement from his 1st Symphony a few years ago (probably 2017??) as part of my local youth symphony.

Frank Bridge (I'm pretty sure he's not well known?)
Timer Period: ig contemporary?

An English composer who lived from 1879 to 1941. In addition to composing, he also played viola. He is most frequently recognized as Benjamin Britten's teacher. He was a pacifist, and during and after World War I, his music became more dark and experimental.

I've been listening to Chausson's "Poeme" for violin and orchestra (or piano accompaniment) lately and quite like it. I'm also sharing Scriabin's Poem of Ecstasy for orchestra. To me both pieces are similar with their seeming lack of structure, a dreamlike stream of consciousness catharsis, which for the Scriabin is more fervent, while for Chausson reflective. If you enjoy the Scriabin, it may fit your listening experience to follow it with Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, which escalates the fervor to a demonic quality.

Not big on music tbh, but I'm related to George Gershwin! Blue Rhapsody anyone?

No idea how popular he is with other people, but I really enjoy listening to C418's Minecraft albums. His music is very different from any other composer I've listened to, and the style is just ethereal. My favorites in Volume Alpha are probably Living Mice, Haggstrom, Mice on Venus, and Moog City. Haven't listened to Volume Beta extensively but the song Alpha is 10 minutes of pure beauty lol

I highly recommend giving these masterpieces a listen, if not just for the nostalgia - he also has a great remix of the Stranger Things Theme!
