Which goggles for which event?
Is there a stand-alone list of which kind of safety equipment (as in GOGGLES) *must* be used at which particular SO event? (Need to make sure everyone has the correct type of goggle/spectacles for their particular event.) Want to start checking off all requirements before Regionals...
If there are any photos (as opposed to just descriptions) of what fulfills the requirements, that would be super.

Not that I know of. You could compile one by checking the rules to each individual event.

did you go on soinc.org? they have the specific kinds listed there. but the pics, well, you need to find those on google.maggymay wrote:Is there a stand-alone list of which kind of safety equipment (as in GOGGLES) *must* be used at which particular SO event? Nerds rule. Nerds are awesome. Nerds will someday (soon) rule the world. And you know it.

Re: Which goggles for which event?
It's just frustrating, thinking about and trying to compile a master check-list of allowed/required equipment. Especially with the glasses, I want to bring extras (I *know* someone will forget) and also want to make sure the required safety-glasses are available for the proper event. I think some people are thinking that out-dated lab-glasses will be ok, when that level of equipment could actually get an event-team disqualified. Sometimes people get so focused on the event - building/study/lab - they can forget about other parameters.
I poked around at soinc.org. The generic kinds of glasses are listed on soinc.org at http://soinc.org/eye_protection , but the types of glasses required for each event are not separately listed.

Welcome to the wild world of SO logistics! I know that my coaches had to run various pieces of "go/no go" safety equipment over the years. Best of luck to you, and you may want to designate a student who doesn't have many events as the designated go'fer. As far as goggles go, I would recommend that any team try to build up their collection of impact resistant splash goggles until they have one for every student that participates in building or chemistry events. Sure, you can borrow some safety glasses from the woodshop for the engineering events, but it is nice to know that the goggles you handed out can be used in any event that a student enters. Personally, I tried to keep a pair in my bag, which I could either use or loan to someone who needed them.
As far as the pictures go, this might be a good time to add a page to the wiki.

Re: Which goggles for which event?
Well, I'm not going to get a wiki page up tonight, and I won't have time to do the research for quite awhile. So, here are some links that align with the classifications on the SOinc page.
Class 1 or 2: The glasses in this picture have removable side-shields. When the side-shields are removed, they would classify under the first criteria. With the side-shields on, they might pass the second criteria. However, there are far better designs of class 2 glasses.

Class 2: These are the kinds you are most likely to see in a woodshop, and are preferable to the design I mentioned above.

Class 3: This picture shows goggles that have perforations along the top and sides.

Class 4: http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/chemsplasgog.html
Class 5: Apparently, this class simple refers to any eye-protection that meets the ANSI standard for High Impact resistance. So, the form factor is irrelevant, as either goggles or glasses can meet this specification.
EDIT: I created a wiki page at http://scioly.org/wiki/Safety_glasses Anyone else with knowledge of the subject is more than welcome to correct any errors or flesh out the subject.

Re: Which goggles for which event?
Unfortunately there is no "master list" of what eye protection is required for all events. One solution is to provide High Impact Chemical/Splash Protection Goggles which may be worn in place of any of the other types.
Proper eye protection is a requirement and contestants must not be allowed to participate without the level of protection required (or higher) by the rules. It is sometimes impossible for event supervisors to know what hazards a team's device may present; therefore, it is incumbent upon teams to bring and wear a higher level of protection than what is specified in the rules when their device warrants it.
Remember: You could go blind without it!
See: wiki page at http://scioly.org/wiki/Safety_glasses for more info (feel free to clean it up).
