Now I know what you'll say - this is way too early. But people said the same thing the first year Way Too Early Predictions was created, and we could probably use something positive to think about - for those of us that aren't still dealing with the fallout (thank you to all the state directors, tournaments directors, national officials, etc. etc. out there).

Wow, just a bit too early. I'm going to be coming into division C next year, and I have a question for you guys. Is division C better than division B?

do we think seven lakes will gain or lose momentum going into 2021?

This is an interesting question to generalize - how do people think these cancellations will impact teams in general? E.g. the potential impacts on established programs versus smaller programs.

I am also curious how certain programs will respond. Will schools that were having a best-ever year keep that momentum, or will the disappointment (combined with graduation) lead to a bigger dip than they would experience in a normal "down" year? Will teams that were "down" (like Harriton) bounce back with a strong year, or with the loss of a season just hurt them more? I'm hoping teams respond well, but my pessimistic side fears we may see some teams fall off, at least for one season.

I completely agree. With the cancellation of this year's Nationals tournament, as well as the concerns of COVID-19, most likely majority will already begin to prepare. Since majority of events stay the same like this year, I feel that teams would like to be able to work as twice as hard to be able to make it to Nationals. I feel like next year will have some teams that will surprise us with their performance. Regardless, I look forward to what next season holds.

Here are some other factors to consider- no team was prepared to recycle events. For events that were going to cycle out, there is usually no problem putting two seniors in those events. Now, the event returns but the seniors do not. As a coach, we have to look ahead by several years and this is a huge curve ball. Also, one thing we do not have is a national tournament schedule. Although it MIGHT be unchanged, the national schedule is partially decided on by the university hosting nationals (someone correct me if I am wrong). Just because you did an event this year, doesn't mean they won't conflict next year. Many factors to consider.
