I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using fishing line on their parachute. If so is it a good idea of bad?

bad. hard to sort out, and heavy as pigeon

well, it is hard to define "worked". What standards are you holding yourself to? How good is good enough? If you try fishing line and it gives you results that you're ok with, then you should totally go ahead with it. If not, then keep on looking and improving your design.
