Trajectory Targets

Post by SciolyH »

I am a little confused on the descriptions for the Trajectory event's targets.
Can anyone describe (or make a rough sketch) on how the targets are placed and stuff?
Thanks.

Well the centers of the targets have to be placed in a straight line from where your firing from and can be no closer than 2ft and no farther then 8ft. The centers of the targets vary from balls placed in the impact zone of sand or kitty litter to nails and golf tees. The near target has to be off the ground and can be up to a meter tall. The far target has to be atleast 2m from the near target and must be on the ground. So the point is so that you have to fire over the raised near target to the far target so that you can't just shoot directly at the targets.
note: this is for the 2008 rules. all distances are from the center of the targets.

Here's a rough sketch of the layout. Is this good or do you want to know more about the targets themselves or anything else about Trajectory?

2009 Targets
located in front of launch area on imaginary line bisecting the launch area
containers 1 meter in diameter or 1 meter square
no more than 3 cm tall
1 cm layer of sand or kitty litter in container
Distance between centers of targets: >= 2 meters
Near Target Height > Far Target height
Far Target on floor

Div. B:
2 meters =< Center of Targets =< 8 meters from front of launch area
Near Target Height <= 1 meter

Div. C:
2 meters =< Center of Targets =< 10 meters from front of launch area
Near Target Height <= 2 meters

We don't know if the setup will be the same as last year's B division rules, unless somebody has actually gotten the B or C division rules for this year. Usually there are some rules changes each year. Sometimes the rules change to reflect a problem or unexpected interpretation or the previous rules. Sometimes the rules are changed to make the event easier to run, and sometimes the rules are changed just enough to keep devices built last year from being used this year.

I think the specifications for the ball are being changed this year to allow only ping-pong, tennis or racket balls. I believe there were simply too many questions about the pliable hollow ball spec last year, so this year they were much more specific.

what are the specs for the project? We did something like that last year. It had to fit inside a 1m cube and fire 5 tennis balls at targets 10m, 15m and 30 meters away. It had to be self loading too, meaning you cant touch it AT ALL like you can in trajectory. it also had to be remotely controlled from 2 meters away. We also had to do a bunch of write ups on it. My group was one of the very few that got an A so if you need any help i'm here.
