Teams Per School

So my school participates in Division C of NYC Regionals and this year we have a ton of applicants. Our head coach appears to not care about exceeding the team capacity limit of 15 members or the senior limit of up to 7 per team. We already have well over the amount of students to fill up 3 teams entirely. I'd like to know if there was some sort of limit to how many teams a school can have participating in a regional competition.

I also wanted to propose a method of selecting the better spectrum of students to participate in the competition, but I don't know of a good method to do so. What would be a good way of selecting students?

This is dependent on the regional site, so the most qualified person to answer this is drcubbin, who's the director.

Most teams use a combo of tryout tests and invitational performance to choose their final team.

Dr. Cubbin is the director for Division B NYC Regionals. It depends on which regional you're going to. The NYC Div C West is Savvas Papadoupoulos and the NYC Div C East is Tom Sangiorgi. Also I believe there's no limit although you should still ask anyways.

Most people's experience is that some people drop out once they understand how much work is involved.

We usually lose quite a few people before December. Just because people are interested doesn't mean they'll follow through.

That being said though, we use three B teams and two C teams. I don't know how it is in New York, though.

Personally I'd suggest to take in two teams, because most invitationals only accept 2 teams max for comp (and usually 1 for states).

A good way of selecting students would be just to run a tryouts session or a scrimmage.

Our regional doesn't cap the amount of teams you can bring, and since we host our regional, we bring 5 teams.

My school brings 5 teams as well. Our regional is near the center of our town, which makes a lot of things really easy.
