Somebody please tell me that Road Scholar is probably the easiest event in Science Olympiad. I would love to know if there is something easier. You know, just for curiosity.

Does anyone know which AAA map we will be needing this year?

Apparently we need history of stuff for Road Scholar??? UT test made me sad, because it had history of PLSS.

I am a first time SciOly coach coaching two 6th graders for Road Scholar, so we are hopelessly lost (ironic for a map reading event, I know). The first invitational is a month away!

I bought the RS Map Reading Manual CD as well as the Bio Earth Science CD which has some Road Scholar materials also, but there are so many files it is hard to figure out where to start and what's important.

Any tips?

Take practice tests and practice interpreting and reading Topo maps. The wiki page (https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Road_Scholar) is fairly through. The wiki test also contains Profiling Exercises.

They’ve never been exposed to the content before. Are there resources they should use to learn before attempting practice tests?

I don’t quite remember what was on the CD, but if there is the coaching manual for road scholar on one of them, then that’s a great foundation for you guys to start off with. Just a couple years ago when I still could compete in this event, that wasn’t my go-to resource for starting out, and I also kept a copy of it in my binder just for reference. I probably went over that manual 10 times (not joking) throughout the course of the season, and that prepped me for later to the point where my partner and I placed at states. However, one thing that it lacks is information on UTM, but there are plenty of resources for that there online, and if you just go over this stuff you should have all the basics and then it’s just practice from there.

What does the following rule mean :"and hard copies of other information in any form and from any source along with colored marking devices consistent with the colors utilized on USGS Topographic maps". Like I have a binder full of information and im not sure what colored marking devices are??What colors do I use??Please help!!Thanks
