Post by Umaroth »

Hello all,

Kraemer Middle School will be hosting its 5th annual Division B invitational tentatively February 1st, 2020. Notable attendees in previous years that have competed at the national level include Oak Valley Middle School and Jeffrey Trail Middle School of Southern California, Kennedy Middle School and Churchill Middle School of Northern California, and Highlands Intermediate School and the Iolani School of Hawaii.

We are still finalizing some details, including the location. More info will be posted sometime next week. If anyone has any preliminary questions, feel free to PM me here on the forums.

Coaches,

We are pleased to announce that Kraemer Invitational will be reborn as the Jeffrey Trail Invitational on February 1st, 2020 hosted at Portola High School (due to some issues involving bureaucracy, Kraemer Science Olympiad will be involved in running the invitational, but we are handing the name over to Jeffrey Trail). Portola High School is located in Irvine, CA, about a 25 minute drive from Kraemer. We are typically the largest Division B invitational on the West Coast, with 60+ teams competing from across the Southwest. Located in Orange County, we have plenty of nearby tourist attractions such as Disneyland for teams to visit after the competition.

The invitational is open to all Division B teams across the country, and each school is welcome to have additional teams registered. Each team competing will be asked to assign two volunteers (parents, coaches, etc.) to help run an event. Event volunteer sign-ups will be based on a first come first serve basis. This year, to improve the efficiency of the tournament and reduce the hassle for attending teams, many tests will be written by a hand-selected qualified pool of past competitors and coaches from across the country.

At the end of the awards ceremony, coaches will receive a packet with their team’s tests, along with blank copies of each test with their answer keys. During the tournament, coaches are welcome to enjoy our perennially popular hospitality room, a lounge where coaches can relax and socialize with coaches from other teams.

Medals will be awarded to the top 6 teams in official events and the top 3 teams in trial events. Trophies will be awarded to the top 6 schools (if two teams from the same school are eligible for a trophy, only the higher rank will be recognized). As the official host, Jeffrey Trail teams will be eligible for medals, but not team trophies.

Registration information will be posted as soon as we get final details worked out. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me here on the forums.
